January 31, , The 99 cent store in the former Rex closed, but is currently being used as a seasonal Halloween City store. Want to be emailed when a new comment is posted about this theater? I found on Webshots, an album of photos from the Interior of the Mall.
Riverside Mall Utica, NY. Once the most popular Mall in the area, its demise started when the Nearby Sangertown Square opened in Slowly, the mall began a Downward Trend.
In the Mid '90s, it was decided that a portion of the mall would be stripped, adding Big Box stores to the Center as Anchors. Originally a Nobody Beats the Wiz was going to be built, but due to their own Demise, it never occurred.
Montgomery Wards would become it's own Building. Note that at this point there were 2 existing Wards buildings. The original, and a new one. The new one was built as a result of a partial Roof Collapse that occurred in the Wintertime due to Heavy Snow. The collapsed Section was sectioned off and the store reopened, but still they built a new store. Bradlees closed, Montgomery Wards did as well. All stores that had Mall only Entrances closed. I often wondered how much of the original Mall still existed.
Tonight, my Wondering was Answered. I found on Webshots, an album of photos from the Interior of the Mall. Enjoy these photos as I did. Photos were from this Webshots Album: Sub-Administrators Ames 4 Lyfer! A friend of mine managed to get into the old mall as well, but he didn't find any of this I hope all that is still there.

Riverside cinemas closed in April Shortly after sometime between closing and when I was there in 08 , because of the lack of heat in the building a pipe froze and burst, in turn filling the bulding with water until it started flowing out of the back door and someone noticed.
When I went in there in , there was mold covering the majority of the carpeted walls. All the seats and projectors had been removed but most of the snack bar still remained. This past summer I was driving through and noticed there were some constuction workers at the entrance.
So I parked and went over to chat.. The guys told me that someone from NYC had purchased the building and wanted it gutted and thats all they knew.
They kindly let me in to see, and it was really odd seeing the entire building opened up all the way to the roof. It had intense competition from the Sangertown Square 9 in New Hartford. Wish I could remember more of what I saw there. I always cared for Riverside over Sangertown, the seats were better and they had cup holders.
